Best mobile phone perks on offer

The 21st Century market for mobile phones is highly competitive with many big businesses battling for your hard-earned cash. This means network providers are always vying to offer new customers a whole range of perks, freebies, discounts and giveaways.

Anything to woo us bargain-loving Brits! But which networks offer the most compelling special offers? And which ones will suit your needs best?

Finding something just right for your needs and your budget is so important when it comes to mobile phones. That’s why calling the team at Gadget Cover is essential when searching for the right mobile phone insurance to protect your device from harm. Because if your phone gets broken, lost, or stolen those perfect perks will seem like a distant memory!

All these perks were correct at the time of writing but be sure to check individual company websites for the most up-to-date offers.

Best for music lovers and sports fans - O2

Offering one of the best-known reward schemes around, O2 has really cornered the market for those who love a great night out. From priority booking for music gigs, comedy shows, and sports events to free snacks or drinks, O2 knows how to show customers a good time.

O2 Priority offers

First up is the O2 Priority app. It’s an absolute must-download and offers a vast array of regular weekly treats and discounts from shops, restaurants and other services. And if you love the thrill of competition then you can also win big-ticket prizes such as cash, holidays and even cars!

O2 Priority tickets

Sold-out shows are great, if you’ve managed to bag yourself a ticket in time. If you’re an O2 customer then you have a valuable weapon in your armoury. You can cut down on the hassle and stress of securing a ticket by downloading the O2 Priority Tickets app.

This lets you buy tickets for events being held at any O2 venue a full 48 hours before they go on general sale.

Okay, it won’t always be a guarantee of success, but it does mean you’ve got a much better chance of bagging a ticket than your non-O2 rivals.

VIP perks at O2 venues

And the benefits don’t just stop once you’ve bought your ticket. At the venue you can access a wide range of additional VIP perks. From fast-track entry and access to exclusive areas, to free cloakrooms and even free drinks. It can often be the small things that make a truly memorable night out!

O2 Pay & Go Rewards

Pay & Go customers aren’t ignored by O2. Far from it! Every three months, O2 adds up all your top-ups and gives you 5% or 10% back.

You can spend it on extra credit, phones and accessories, money off shopping or concert tickets. But remember, if you don’t use them by the next quarter, you’ll lose them.

O2 Extras

When you buy a selected device or SIM-only contract you can also choose from a range of superb extras. Extras include access to Amazon’s Prime Video, Audible or Music Unlimited, Disney+, the Calm meditation app, low-cost international calls and roaming across 27 countries outside Europe.

Looking at mobile devices

Best for discount hunters - EE

If you’re with one of the other big network providers then there are plenty of great reasons to switch to EE. The company is trying very hard to lure you away by offering a good range of incentives.

Unfortunately, the best offers may not always apply to existing customers. Although with discounts on days out and some of the fastest network speeds around, there’s still plenty of reason to stay loyal.

Free BT Sport on your mobile or tablet

Sports fans who are looking for a cheap way to watch next season’s matches could be in for a treat if they sign up for a monthly EE contract. You can get a free, three-month subscription to the BT Sport app.

This gives you access to live Premier League and UEFA Champions League matches, Gallagher Rugby, Moto GP and boxing. All for free on your phone or tablet. Just remember to cancel your subscription after the free period ends if you no longer want it.

Free Apple Music

Normally costing £9.99 a month, both new and long-term EE customers can save big on music with a free, six-month subscription to Apple Music. With access to over 30 million songs, it’ll revolutionise how you listen to your favourite artists.

Remember to cancel your subscription at the end of the free period if you don’t want to start paying.

Smart number technology

A nice little perk is EE's new smart number technology. This lets customers make and receive calls on their number using up to five connected Apple devices.

It works even when you don’t have your phone, or your battery dies while you're out. The service is available to pay monthly and small business customers with an iPhone 6 or newer.

Best for those who want to keep life simple – Vodafone

With the sheer amount of offers on the table it can sometimes be hard to weigh up what’s the best deal for you. Vodafone tries to keep it simple by offering a very straightforward set of perks.

Vodafone VeryMe Rewards

If you access the VeryMe Rewards on the My Vodafone app you can look forward to weekly personalised treats and giveaways tailored to you. Popular brands offering tasty discounts and freebies through VeryMe Rewards include Chili, Joe & Sephs, Boots, Costa Coffee, WHSmith and many more.

There are also regular prize draws and competitions as a reward for your loyalty. Our personal favourite has to be the ongoing offer getting you two Vue cinema tickets every week for just £7. Movie buffs love this offer which is valid any day, any time.

If you enjoy eating out, then Vodafone has recently linked up with the Gourmet Society to offer exclusive access to a whole year's worth of discounts at independent restaurants and cafes across the UK. Get your munch on with 2-for-1 meals and 25% off food and drink.

Entertainment plans

Vodafone customers who sign up to one of their Entertainment plans can get free access to YouTube Premium, Amazon Prime, or Spotify Premium while their contract lasts. This can mean big savings in terms of monthly subscriptions.

Roaming abroad

If customers upgrade to an Xtra Plan with unlimited data and 4 Xtra benefits then they can enjoy cost-free roaming in 83 worldwide destinations. Vodafone says that’s more destinations than any other UK network.

Phone travel

Best for international jetsetters – Three

The last of the big four providers, Three isn’t a big fan of offering gimmicky perks or offers. Instead it prefers to focus on its services to woo potential customers. But there are still plenty of reasons to opt for Three.

International roaming

While it might not be a reward, Go Roam is a big perk for anyone choosing Three who is partial to international travel. It allows you to use your monthly call, text and data allowance while you're abroad for no extra charge (up to 12GB).

It covers 71 destinations and is probably the best roaming scheme out there at the moment. Tell Three where you’re going and they’ll let you know if it’s a Go Roam destination.

If you’re planning on a trip abroad then your mobile phone insurance needs to cover any problems while you’re away. Call Gadget Cover to discuss the benefits of our worldwide cover.

It’s easy to extend cover to include use of your gadget anywhere in the world, up to 180 days in any one year.

Refer a friend

You can earn up to £80 as a cash reward if you recommend one of Three’s products to a friend. Whether it’s a new phone, tablet, SIM or Home Broadband you could get some serious benefits when you share the love.

Best for Sky TV fans - Sky Mobile

Sky Mobile can offer a host of money-saving benefits if you're an existing Sky TV customer.

Unlimited streaming of Sky apps

If you’re a family of avid TV fans then Sky Mobile has a great benefit just right for you. You can always stay up to date with your favourites through unlimited streaming of Sky apps – all without using your data!

This not only appeals to sports fans who want to watch Sky Sports on the go. But also those wanting to watch the latest headlines or current affairs on Sky News, the little ones desperate to watch Sky Kids, or couples looking for a great film to watch with Sky Cinema.

Free data rollover

If you don’t always hit your data allowance every month, you can sometimes feel a little short-changed when that spare data then disappears. Sky Mobile is tackling this common gripe by offering a free data rollover scheme.

But unlike other networks which only let you roll over data from the previous month, with Sky Mobile you can store it in an online ‘piggy bank’. That data will be saved for whenever you want to use it for up to three years at no extra cost. So you’ll never lose what you’ve already paid for.

Not only can you use data at a later date but you can also share it with up to seven SIMs on your account. So if a family member is in desperate need of a bit of a top-up you can step in to help. You can even exchange it for money off a new phone!

Sky VIP

Sky VIP is Sky’s loyalty programme through which you can take advantage of a host of benefits and rewards. As a VIP member, you can look forward to exclusive rewards and a range of competitions to win holidays, experiences and days out.

The great thing is that the longer you stay with Sky, the better the rewards get.

Family on tablet

Best for family fun - BT Mobile

If there are a lot of phone users in your household then BT Mobile could be the place for you all to save.

£5 off

If you've got broadband with BT, then you'll also get a £5 monthly discount on your mobile phone bill. Every little really does help when it comes to keeping costs down.

BT Sport on your mobile

This perk is open to those taking out a BT Mobile plan costing £15 or more a month (with Broadband discount), or £20 or more a month (without Broadband discount). It lets you watch the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup and more on your mobile.

Be aware, you won’t be able to use this deal to watch BT Sport on your television.

If you’re using your phone to watch sports then there’s nothing worse than the action being ruined by unsightly screen cracks and damage. Unlike some insurers, mobile phone insurance from Gadget Cover also covers minor screen cracks.

Cheap family SIMs

With so many family members having mobile phones wouldn’t it be nice if you could have multiple SIMs all being paid for from one account? Well, that’s no problem with BT Mobile.

There are great deals for second, third or fourth SIMs, making it a winner for those looking for group savings. For example, at the moment each additional SIM is at least 20% cheaper than getting a SIM on its own.

Roam Like Home

A perk for those who like to travel, BT Mobile’s Roam Like Home offers you international roaming on 47 destinations without paying extra in roaming charges. The countries included are the entire EU and many non-EU European countries. It also includes some parts of the Caribbean such as Guadeloupe and Martinique.

Okay, it isn’t quite as extensive as Three’s offering, but it should cover family breaks to many major holiday destinations.
