Nintendo Switch - Features Games and Release Dates

Nintendo Switch

Nintendo was once one of the biggest names — if not the biggest — when it comes to gaming consoles.

Its Nintendo 64 console was one of the most popular consoles of the 90s, and is renowned for its legacy of influential games, such as Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and GoldenEye 007.

In recent years, the Japanese company has struggled to compete with offerings from PlayStation and Xbox.

But the release of the Nintendo Switch might be just the device to bring Nintendo back into the race.

So, what is the Nintendo Switch? Why are people getting so excited? And when can you get your hands on one?

There’s nothing worse than getting stuck into a game, only to have to leave it to run some errands, or leave for work. But now Nintendo will provide gamers with the perfect solution with its console/handheld hybrid.

As Nintendo explains: “In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose.”

Aside from a trailer released by Nintendo in October depicting the hybrid console, information on the console’s other features is being kept secret. But that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from going into overdrive.

The latest reports suggest the Nintendo Switch will feature a USB-C socket as its primary charging port, while Eurogamer claims the gamepad’s screen will have a 6.2-inch capacitive multi-touch screen with a 720p display.

However, Nintendo has not yet confirmed whether the Switch will include touchscreen and it was not featured in the reveal trailer.

No matter how impressive a games console might be, it will soon be lost in the cupboard if it doesn’t have games that engage players.

What we do know is that Nintendo Switch will be launching with exclusive and multiplatform games.

From the trailer, we know that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Skyrim, NBA 2K, Pokémon Sun and Moon, and Mario will all be featured.

There are also numerous other rumours flying around as to the other games that will become available for this console as an increasing number of publishers back the Nintendo Switch. And if that isn’t a sign that this console is worth having, we don’t know what is.

Release date

Waiting for a console to be released can feel like forever, but gamers can rejoice as there isn’t much longer to wait.

While a specific date hasn’t yet been confirmed, it is known that the device will launch in March next year.

Trusted Reviews believes a release date will be announced at the event Nintendo is holding on 12 January.

And how much will it cost? Well, that’s still a mystery at the moment, but you’ve still got a few months save up.
