Top apps for pregnancy and new parents
From Googling symptoms, to sending endless photos of your adorable newborn to everyone in your WhatsApp contact list, it’s fair to say that new parents can end up spending a lot of time on their phones.
So, it’s perhaps not surprising that tech companies have realised the market for parenting apps.
From pregnancy tracking apps, to baby first aid, to getting expert advice, there’s a plethora of apps to help new parents. But which ones are worth downloading? Here’s a roundup of some of the best:
Glow Nurture Pregnancy Tracker
This free app from the makers of the conception app Glow allows users to track their pregnancy, with daily updates on the size of your baby. It also tracks the mother’s health with an input of daily intake and symptoms.
There are also health insights, a due date calculator, an appointment reminder, access to the Glow community to get tips and advice throughout your pregnancy, and postpartum support.
It’s the perfect pregnancy companion.
Pregnancy Exercise – weekly workout
It can be hard to motivate yourself to head to the gym at the best of times, and it can be even more difficult when you’re pregnant. But what if you could do exercises that will help you tone the muscles you need for a healthy pregnancy and delivery, all in the comfort of your own home?
The tailored exercises offer a specific exercise every week of the pregnancy, consisting of Pilates, yoga and strength training. For this iOS app, weeks six to 10 are free, while the remaining 30 will be unlocked for a fee of around £4.99 – still a lot cheaper than a gym membership!
Baby and Child First Aid
It’s never nice to see our children in pain or ill, but there are some cases where a little preparation could be the difference between life and death.
From the British Red Cross, the free Baby and Child First Aid app provides parents with a host of simple and easy to understand advice, useful videos, animations and tips so you can learn how to administer first aid in minutes.
There are quizzes so you can keep your knowledge up to date and it also enables parents to keep a record of their child’s medication needs and allergies.
Whether you’re on parental leave with your baby or have taken some time off to spend with the kids over the school holidays, the time before you go back to work can soon seem like a lifetime away when the weather is bad and you have to try to find ways to entertain your bored children.
Thankfully, Hoop provides you with all the information you need to keep everyone entertained.
The free app makes it easy to find and book child-friendly activities for children aged 0-11 years. Sign up with your location and the age of your child or children and the app will pull up activities with a recommended age so you can pick something that is just right for your family.
The activities include everything from drop-in baby and toddler groups, to story time, to messy play.
