Top tech launches in 2017
Christmas is over and as we head back to work, we need something to help us get through the remaining cold and dark winter days.
Your post-Christmas bank balance might not let you book that Caribbean holiday that has suddenly become very tempting, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of things to look forward to in 2017.
What better way to beat the January blues than to discover the best upcoming tech? While there are sure to be a few surprise gadget releases this year, these are the top tech launches you can expect to see:
As we discussed before in our iPhone 8 Rumours piece, 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. So it is perhaps unsurprising that numerous rumours and reports suggest Apple’s next flagship phone will be a major refresh.
The latest rumours suggest the next iPhone will feature a curved OLED screen as well as wireless charging.
So when can you expect the release of the iPhone 8? In previous years, Apple has opted for a launch in September; however, some believe the tech giant might bring it forward to coincide with the anniversary on 29 June.
2017 is set to be a big year for gamers. One of the consoles generating a lot of excitement is the Nintendo Switch.
PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox have dominated the console sector in recent years, but it is hoped that Nintendo’s latest offering will help the iconic video company to become a serious contender.
Due for release in March, Nintendo fans don’t have long to wait. A three-minute video released last year showed the console will work on TV and will also double as a portable system. It is thought that we will know further details on 12 January.
Xbox Project Scorpio
Gamers will have to wait a bit longer for one of 2017’s other highly anticipated consoles.
Truth is, not much is known about that we can expect from the Xbox Project Scorpio. The console has been shrouded in secrecy since it was unveiled at Microsoft’s E3 2016 keynote session.
Of course, that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from going into overdrive. It’s said to out-do the PS4 Pro when it comes to raw performance. As well as being designed for 4K TVs, there’s speculation that it is also designed for virtual reality headsets such as the Oculus Rift.
It is believed Microsoft’s next big console will launch in the autumn.
A Google smartwatch
The smartwatch market is undoubtedly dominated by Apple, but as Android Police reports, Google looks set to change that this year.
While we’re not yet sure of the price or launch date, it seems Google will be releasing two smartwatches in 2017 to coincide with the arrival of Android Wear 2.0.
With these tech launches, as well as many more, it seems 2017 will be another great year for gadgets.
