Why Get iPhone Insurance?

Apple is easily the most trusted provider of quality devices ranging from smartphones and tablets to laptops and desktop computers. Many reasons account for Apple’s popularity on the smartphone market: high quality, excellent functionality, and unique design.

No wonder that so many consumers choose Apple’s flagship product, the iPhone, when picking a mobile phone. iPhone has paved the way for the development of smartphone devices we know today - and it’s still one of the most popular choices on the market. The release of a new iPhone model makes headline news.

If you’re planning to buy a new iPhone or if you’ve just purchased one, you may be debating whether to get insurance. After all, an iPhone is an expensive item, and if you were to break or lose it, you could end up spending a lot of money. If you’ve got your iPhone through a network contract, you stand to lose even more money in the process, and the replacement might become cumbersome.

That’s why it’s best to let someone else do the replacing for you. Our insurance policies include all you need to cover the most common problems iPhone users encounter: accidental damage, theft, and loss. But that’s not everything. Our iPhone insurance offers a whole array of other additional benefits such as:

  • Instant cover starting right from the moment when you sign the contract.
  • One month of free coverage.
  • Cover that ensures your iPhone accessories, such as the charger aren’t left unprotected.

What You Need To Get iPhone Insurance

To insure your phone with Gadget Cover, ensure the phone is no older than 18 months. Once you get your phone insurance, there’s no limit to how long it can be insured. The important thing is bringing your iPhone to us before it turns 18 months. You’ll also need to ensure:

  • The iPhone must be in good condition and full working order prior to purchasing the policy
  • You’re able to provide evidence of ownership
  • The items was purchased as new, or refurbished (if purchased directly from a manufacturer or mobile network provider)

To get mobile phone insurance, you need to be a permanent resident of the United Kingdom and at least 18 years old. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to insure an iPhone that belongs to anyone under 18 years of age.

If you have the latest iPhone and protecting it is really important to you, but you’re younger than 18 years old, you can ask your parents to do that for you. If you live with your parents, they can sign the insurance contract and transfer it quickly to you once you turn 18. That way you’ll be making sure that your iPhone is protected with the appropriate smartphone insurance.

Exclusions of iPhone Insurance Policies

Our mobile phone insurance includes specific exclusions, and it’s smart to know what they are before signing a contract.

At Gadget Cover, the exclusions for iPhone insurance are the following:

Leaving the iPhone unattended (not within your sight at all times and out of your arms-length reach) - for example, if you leave your iPhone behind on a table in a crowded restaurant, your phone won’t be insured.

  • Theft from a vehicle or premises where there are no visible signs of forced entry.
  • Failure to present a proof of purchase or receipt.
  • Claims where the iPhone hasn’t been in use since you’ve purchased the phone insurance.

If you have any questions about exclusions for the iPhone insurance policy, feel free to get in touch with us.

What To Check Before Getting iPhone Insurance

Before reaching out to an insurer, make sure that your iPhone isn’t covered by any other types of insurance you have - for example, a home or travel insurance. Note that while these types of insurance are cost-effective, they might have long claim processing that could leave you without your iPhone for a more extended period than specialist iPhone insurance.

Always read the terms stated in your contract carefully. Pay attention to the specific cases that are excluded from the policy as well.

Which iPhone Models Can I Insure?

Our gadget insurance covers all iPhone models, including some of the most recent ones such as iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone 10, iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.

Remember that we only insure mobile phones that are no older than 18 months and in good condition and working order prior to policy inception. When insuring your iPhone, make sure to present a proof of purchase with your name on it to help us process your request faster and check whether your device is eligible for our mobile phone insurance.

What Do I Need To Make A Claim?

To make a claim, you need to report the theft or loss of your iPhone to the police and your service provider within 48 hours after discovering that it has been stolen, lost or damaged.

Then you need to get in touch with us. Make sure that you do that within 48 hours from discovering theft or loss of your iPhone.

You can call our dedicated Claim Advisors on 0203 794 9294 or send an email to this address: gadgetcoverclaims@directgroup.co.uk. If you take longer to contact us, you risk that your claim is delayed or rejected.

We will process your claim within 48 hours, and once we complete all the documentation (including proof of ownership), we will make a decision about your claim within 48 working hours. If we approve the claim, all you need to do is pay the policy excess to allow us to proceed with the claim. It’s key that you provide us with all the required information and pay the excess as quickly as possible. Any delay can render the process more time-consuming.

If your claim is for damage, we will ask you to send the damaged device to our nominated repair centre where our experts can inspect and repair it. We repair or replace items within 5 to 7 working days.

Can I Insure The iPhone of My Child?

A benefit of insuring with Gadget Cover is our family cover which enables you to insure gadgets within your family e.g. an iPhone that belongs to a person who is under 18 years of age. Our family cover plan provides insurance to mobile phone owners who are younger than 18 years of age and cannot sign the insurance contract on their own. Once your child is 18 years old, you may transfer the insurance cover to their name.

What Else Can I Do To Keep My iPhone Safe?

It’s likely that the most valuable things on your iPhone are your contacts, photos, files, and other personal information. To make sure that data stored on your phone is protected against loss, consider cloud storage options like iCloud for creating backups of your data.

Storing your photos, contacts, and other information in the cloud means that you can access them from any device connected to the internet. Schedule regular backups of your data to make sure that all your files are in your cloud storage.
