Keeping your iPhone X safe from harm is an important job for any responsible iPhone owner. As one of the most affordable iPhones on the market right now you’ll still want to make sure you have a specialist mobile phone insurance policy to cover it.
When you’re searching for an insurance policy to cover your iPhone, you’ll want to check for these 10 must-have features. And if you have one of its stunning successors, such as the iPhone 13 Pro Max, you’ll want to research iPhone 13 Pro Max insurance cover, too.
-
Accidental damage
As the first iPhone to use an OLED display and with a bezel-less design, keeping the iPhone screen damage free and in pristine condition is very important. But if something does happen then accidental damage insurance cover will come to the rescue.
When it comes to iPhones, screen damage in particular can get expensive. So, it’s important to make sure you choose the right level of excess with your insurance policy.
According to Apple, if your iPhone X is out of warranty then the cost to replace a screen in the UK could set you back around £266. And remember, without insurance if there’s any other damage from the accident then you’ll have to pay even more.
Bear in mind that Apple has worked hard on phone durability. With recent iPhones such as the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models now offering super-tough Ceramic Shield protection. However, earlier models such as the iPhone X won’t stand up to such rough treatment.
-
Liquid damage
With a water and dust resistance rating of IP67, your iPhone X should be able to withstand a certain amount of dunking. However, no iPhone is ever going to be completely impervious to liquid damage.
An IP67 rating means the iPhone X can withstand being submerged for up to 30 minutes in one metre of water. But compare this to the IP68 rating of the most recent iPhones which can last up to 30 minutes at a depth of six metres and it’s easy to see a difference.
But no matter what the rating is, water and dust resistance will decrease over time. So, it’s probably best not to take the chance around water.
Liquid damage is a common claim on any mobile phone insurance policy. Always make sure protection from liquid damage is included in your mobile phone insurance policy.
If you don’t, then damage could prove very costly to repair. Repairs through Apple could cost from £526 for an iPhone X. Be aware that Apple Authorised Service Providers can set their own prices, so could charge even more.
In view of the potential repair costs, it’s important to set your insurance excess at the right level. While a high excess can mean a cheaper iPhone X insurance policy, if you can’t afford to pay the excess then you’ll have a problem when it comes to repairs.
Yet another great reason to insure through an insurance specialist like Gadget Cover.
-
Breakdown insurance
While the iPhone X might no longer be ‘the future’, it’s still a very reliable and powerful phone. That said, being a few years old now means they can be more susceptible to break down than the latest Apple offerings.
Battery problems are always going to be a particular issue for any older mobile phone. If you’re having problems with an older iPhone X then a brand-new battery could give it a whole new lease of life.
And that’s why breakdown insurance from Gadget Cover is so worthwhile. As we’ve said previously, checking your excess level when arranging insurance is an important question to have answered.
-
Unauthorised usage
Unfortunately, any iPhone can become a target for opportunistic criminals and a potential drain on your pocket. If someone ‘finds’ or steals your iPhone X then they could easily rack up unauthorised calls and data usage costing thousands of pounds.
By arranging an insurance policy through Gadget Cover, you could be refunded up to £2,500 if you’re a victim of such a crime. Could you really afford not to have this included as part of your insurance cover?

-
Loss
As any Apple enthusiast knows, our beloved iPhones go with us everywhere. But no matter how careful we are, many thousands of mobile phones like these are lost every year.
Protecting your tech against loss is one of those things you’ll probably want insurance cover for even if it costs a little bit extra. Protection against loss is an optional level of extra policy cover you can select through Gadget Cover. Simply pay an additional insurance cost and you’re covered against this common hazard.
-
Theft
Even if the iPhone X is no longer at the top of the list when it comes to phones most likely to be stolen, that doesn’t mean you can be careless when it comes to insurance cover. Protecting yourself against criminals is still one of the most popular reasons to arrange a mobile phone insurance policy for your iPhone X.
-
Accessory insurance cover
While the iPhone X isn’t compatible with the latest MagSafe accessories, that’s no reason to despair. There’s still plenty of excellent accessories on the market perfect for your iPhone X.
From wireless headphones and chargers to cases and covers, the only difficulty is deciding which one is right for you. Just remember, you’ll need accessory insurance cover to keep them safe while out and about.
An insurance policy arranged through Gadget Cover will cover any accessories (up to £150) if they’re lost, stolen or damaged at the same time as your iPhone. Another useful benefit of having an iPhone insurance policy!
-
Worldwide insurance cover
Even if you love having the very latest iPhone as your main phone, it’s always a good idea to have a capable backup handy when you travel. Losing your Pro Max iPhone while on holiday is a surefire way to make the trip unforgettable for all the wrong reasons.
Not only will you have lost that expensive iPhone, but you’ll also lose access to important items such as your plane tickets, travel itineraries, bank accounts and a whole lot more. Having a backup phone like the iPhone X is a great insurance policy for when things don’t go to plan.
However, you’ll still need to make sure you’ve got worldwide insurance cover for wherever your journey takes you. Whether you’re at home or abroad, having iPhone insurance means more peace of mind.
-
Family cover
An iPhone X is a great phone to let first-time phone users have a go on. But you’ll still want family cover to protect it from damage.
-
E-wallet cover
Whether you’ve got the latest iPhone 13 Pro Max or something a little older like the iPhone X, having an E-wallet means criminals will always be interested in using your phone without permission.
With that threat in mind, you’ll also want to include E-wallet cover in your mobile phone insurance policy. So, if your iPhone X is accidentally lost or stolen and unauthorised transactions are made using your E-Wallet facility then you’re covered.
With Gadget Cover you could be refunded up to a maximum of £500 through your iPhone insurance policy.

As you can see, on paper the iPhone X still has some enviable features well worth being covered by insurance. But what are the five reasons why we think the iPhone X is still worth protecting with mobile phone insurance cover?
1. Superb modern design
While Apple has continued to develop the iPhone’s design since the iPhone X hit the scene, it still manages to look and feel up-to-date. Evolution rather than revolution has certainly been the design ethos since the iPhone X premiered.
With a shrinking notch, flat rather than rounded edges and a bigger screen there are some clear differences between the iPhone X and the latest iPhone 13 phones. But the handsets do seem remarkably similar. The iPhone X is still one stunning phone.
2. Very affordable
With a £999 starting price, in 2017 the iPhone X was the most expensive iPhone ever and was a real sticker shock for many consumers. No wonder buyers were so keen to get covered by insurance as soon as possible.
Thankfully when it comes to the iPhone X those times are behind us. And while you won’t find new iPhone X phones on sale today there are still plenty of bargains to be had.
Should you buy a refurbished phone? If you’re a tech lover with more limited funds then purchasing a refurbished iPhone X from Apple or a reputable seller is a great idea.
Refurbished or not, once you’ve invested in an Apple handset, you’ll need to arrange a dependable insurance policy. You never know when a spillage or drop might occur, requiring costly repairs and a call to your insurance provider.
3. iOS 15 support
Apple is pretty good with support for its iPhones with most models getting between 6 and 8 years of iOS updates. Much better than anything in the world of Android phones.
However, because there are now so many iPhones in circulation it can be confusing when it comes to working out how long your iPhone model will be supported for. If you buy an iPhone X then you should be looking at receiving support for the latest iOS updates until at least 2023/2024.
While there’s still plenty of longevity, be aware that your iPhone X won’t be as snappy as the latest iPhones offering the A15 Bionic chip under the hood. So, if you’re running too many apps at once or playing a graphically intensive game then you might feel a bit of a slow down in comparison to more recent iPhone ranges.
4. Dual-lens camera capabilities
Apple has always set the highest standards when it comes to camera capabilities, and with every new release they get that bit better. But while the iPhone X might no longer be at the top of the camera tree it still offers a lot to avid mobile photographers.
The iPhone X boasts a 12MP dual lens camera set up with a dedicated telephoto lens perfect for close-ups and portraits. It also does a good job at shooting video, offering up to 4K video at 60 fps.
Yes, the latest iPhones will offer some stunning camera improvements including macro lenses and optical image stabilisation. But you’ll still take great snaps without them.
5. It’s a great back-up
As we’ve already mentioned, the iPhone X can make a great back up or secondary phone. But you’ll still need iPhone insurance to ensure it’s well covered against loss, damage and theft.
Our verdict on the iPhone X? Despite its age, it’s still a great buy. With its modern design, capable cameras, and iOS support it’s a fantastic affordable option.
If you want to know more about the range of iPhones still on offer then head on over to the Gadget Cover blog and read the many handy guides to Apple products and how to use them. And while you’re there, why not check out all the iPhone insurance policy cover we have available?
Since the launch of the original iPhone all the way back in 2007, Apple has released a bewildering array of stunning gadgets. However, while some have been more revolutionary than others, it’s not always immediately apparent which iPhone you’re holding in your hand.
Follow our easy step-by-step guide to telling which iPhone you’ve got and you should have no problem. Although some phones are slightly trickier than others.
For example, from a design perspective it’s very difficult to tell the iPhone X from the iPhone XS. The best way is to open Settings > General > About. There are lots of interesting bits of information here alongside the iPhone’s model number and name.
With so many different makes and models of phone on the market, having a bespoke iPhone insurance policy is well worth the effort. Every phone will need a slightly different level of insurance cover depending on your needs and budget.
Finding the right iPhone insurance is really straightforward if you choose to use a specialist like Gadget Cover. We’ll always make sure the insurance policy we arrange for you has all the insurance cover features you need.
