What does Samsung phone insurance cover?

Wondering whether or not to invest in Samsung mobile phone insurance? Well, here are 10 reasons why we think it could be the best decision you make this year. Let’s count the ways that Samsung insurance can help…

1. Protects against accidents

Samsung devices are well known for their high standards, but no matter how durable they are that doesn’t make them immune from an accident.

Insure with Gadget Cover and we’ll even take care of minor screen cracks. And if the item can't be fixed, we'll replace it.

2. Protects against liquid damage

Accidentally dropping your phone in the toilet or spilling your coffee all over it are just some of the most common accidents insurers come across. While many Samsung devices are water and dust proof, this is still an essential part of any cover as it won't be covered by the manufacturer warranty.

3. Guards against thieves

A flagship Samsung like the Samsung Galaxy S21 can be very expensive indeed. And with their flashy good looks and cutting-edge tech specs, they’re a popular target for criminals. However, with theft cover, if your device is stolen, we'll get you back online in no time.

4. Covers you for mechanical breakdown

Once your Samsung phone is out of warranty, if it suffers a mechanical breakdown, it'll be down to you to fix it. But expensive repair costs could throw a real spanner in the works if you don’t have the right insurance cover.

5. Provides e-wallet cover for modern shoppers

You might have the latest Galaxy S21 phone but are you aware of the latest hacks and scams, too? If you do fall foul of cybercriminals then having digital e-wallet cover in your Samsung insurance policy could refund any unauthorised transactions.

Gadget Cover’s Gold and Silver cover both provide this feature up to a maximum of £500. As you can see, just a little increase in premiums can provide a whole lot more cover.

6. Stops you losing out to unauthorised calls and data charges

When your phone is stolen, you’ll no doubt be worried about a whole range of things. From malicious damage to how soon you’ll get a replacement device, the list can feel endless.

Unfortunately, on top of all this a criminal could leave you with a bill for thousands of pounds worth of unauthorised calls and data usage.

Check your policy details and see if you’re covered for this – if you’re not then it could be time for a change.

7. Safeguards your phone against accidental loss

According to Statista (2022), Brits have lost almost 100 smartphones since 2007, with the 25-34 age group accounting for the most. If you worry you might accidentally misplace your super Samsung Galaxy S21, then you’ll be glad you added loss cover as a policy extra.

8. Ensures your accessories are also kept safe

From the latest Galaxy Buds2 Pro and S-pens to wireless chargers, there are so many accessories you’ll want to keep close to your phone. The problem is that if something happens to your device, then the same might also happen to your accessories.

If you choose Gold cover with us, you’ll also receive protection for the repair or replacement of those super-useful accessories. If they’re lost, damaged or stolen at the same time as your device, they’ll be covered up to a value of £150.

9. Covers you for wherever your journey takes you

Whether exploring out-of-the-way travel locations or doing business in far flung places, you’ll want worldwide cover to keep your phone protected. Policies arranged through Gadget Cover can be extended to include use of your mobile phone anywhere in the world, up to 180 days in any one year.

10. Provides protection for all every family member

If an accident should happen when one of your close family members is using your Samsung phone then an insurance policy with family cover could save the day.

What does Samsung phone insurance not cover?

There are so many benefits to taking out Samsung phone insurance, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be covered for every possible problem.

Always pay attention to the small print and take a note of any exclusions to the cover - it's important information!

Common cover exclusions include:

  • Pre-existing damage.
  • Any claim where proof of phone usage can’t be provided.
  • Claims where reasonable precautions have not been taken.
  • Theft or loss from a vehicle or property when there’s no visible sign of forced entry.
  • Theft or loss of a phone left unattended when away from your home.
  • Lack of proof of phone purchase.
  • Liquid damage.
  • Cosmetic damage that doesn’t affect the functionality or operation of the phone.
  • Theft or loss where there has been a delay in reporting to the police or the insurance provider.

Be aware, this is only a limited list and there could be other exclusions that apply to your policy. It's up to you to make sure you understand the detail of what's covered and what's not.

How much does Samsung phone insurance cost?

Here at Gadget Cover, we can provide an insurance policy for a wide range of Samsung products. Depending on the model and level of cover you choose, Samsung insurance cost can be less than £5 per month with many of our policies.

For example, the very cheap and cheerful Samsung Galaxy A02s can be insured for as little as £1.35 per month with our Bronze level of cover! While even a top-of-the-range Samsung Galaxy S22+ 256GB could cost from as little as £4.73 a month.

You’ll need to be aware that the price of premiums will go up when you take into account any additional extras such as cover to protect against loss and the amount of excess you’re happy to pay if you do make a claim.

That said, if you choose to arrange insurance through your network provider then you probably won’t be getting the best value policy on offer.

What is mobile phone insurance premium tax?

Introduced in the UK in 1994, mobile phone insurance premium tax is known as IPT. It is a tax on the premium you pay when you’re buying a mobile phone insurance policy and is paid to the government.

The standard rate of IPT in the UK is currently set at 12% and is included in the cost of your insurance premium. As well as mobile phone insurance policies, it’s also applied to other general insurance policies, including home insurance, car insurance and travel insurance.

From the manufacturers and network providers themselves to independent insurance companies, when it comes to Samsung insurance cover there’s a bewildering array of options on the market. But if you choose protection through Gadget Cover, you can rest assured it will be a quick and easy process.

We provide three great plans to choose from: Gold, Silver or Bronze. All of which will provide great value, all-round protection for your precious phone.

Our first level of cover is called Bronze and offers protection against accidental damage and liquid damage. These are two of the most common risks you’ll encounter when out and about with your flashy, new Samsung.

Next up is our Silver policy, which also offers covers against theft, mechanical breakdown and unauthorised calls and data usage. It also gives you e-wallet protection, too. These are all great little extras you’ll be pleased you’re covered for if the worst should happen.

Finally, our Gold cover provides ultimate protection for your phone which includes protection against accidental loss as well as accessories cover. While it will cost slightly more, arranging the best level of protection for your device is well worth it.

You’ll receive instant cover on your new device. So, as soon as you finalise your purchase of insurance, your cover will be activated.

When you buy a new device, Samsung will try to encourage you to take out something called Samsung Care+. It’s a similar extended manufacturer's warranty product to AppleCare+ and will protect your phone in certain circumstances.

However, Samsung Care+ won’t cover for loss, deliberate damage, cosmetic damage or lack of reasonable care. And you might have to pay additional fees to repair certain types of damage.

A Samsung phone purchased in the UK will come with a one-year Samsung warranty. According to Samsung, this covers you for device breakdown and a one-year battery warranty – accessories included with the phone have a six-month warranty.

It won’t cover you for a whole range of other problems, though, such as accidental damage, damage by water or liquids and normal wear and tear.

While a warranty is a nice way to deal with any early problems arising from manufacturing defects, for everything else you really need specialist insurance cover.

In a similar way to Apple products, if you want to get the most from any Samsung device then you’ll want to pair it with quality accessories. For example, the Galaxy Watch5 Pro, Galaxy Buds2 Pro or the Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 would all make a fantastic addition to your tech armoury.

However, even the most comprehensive phone insurance policy might not be able to cover the whole cost of a repair or replacement of such expensive items. That’s when an additional gadget insurance policy might come in handy, too.

Here at Gadget Cover, we can provide protection for a wide variety of Samsung gadgets including smart watches, tablets and laptops. If you need to repair or replace your gadgetry fast, we're here to help.

Want to know how much a Samsung phone insurance policy will cost you? Just enter the make and model of your new device into the Gadget Cover online quote tool to find out what cover is on offer and how we can protect your tech.

Add in further details of the device including the age of your handset, when it was purchased and its IMEI number (or serial number) and you’ll have our best quote in a matter of moments.

With gadget cover your phone will be covered from the moment you finalise the purchase of insurance. You won’t have to wait for the insurance policy to be processed and applied within a specific number of days from your purchase. Instead, you can enjoy coverage right from the moment of purchase.

For many smartphone users, the most valuable content on their phone, that no insurance company is able to replace, is their contacts, photos, files, and other pieces of personal information.
